The real Nickie Dryden??

After having recently watched the film 'A Sense of Freedom' about the Glasgow loan shark come artist Jimmy Boyle. I couldn't help but see the similarities between him and with Nickie Dryden. On watching the documentary on the DVD ('A Sense of Freedom') and reading a bit further about Jimmy Boyle the similarities became even more startling.

Here's what I've noticed so far.
Both
were loan sharks in Glasgow in the 60s
were put in prison for murder
become sculptors while in prison and later became professional
got married to a professional woman
became respectable in polite society
lived in Edinburgh in a large house
had a son who was murdered

You can read more about Boyle here

Anybody else notice this?

Aye, celebrity ex-gangsters are ten-a-penny over here though.

Jimmy Boyle is cut from different cloth as most of these old lags that have a ghost written biography. Boyle turned his life around, is not proud of his criminal year unlike these old lags who glorify their criminal past.
