So was Ruby in love with Ada?

I know she was afraid that as soon as Inman came back, her plans for Ada's farm would fall by the wayside, but I got this distinct feeling that ruby might also have had feelings for Ada. I could be reading too into it, but I simply just got that impression. Especially when she cried as Ada and Inman were making love in the next room

I think she was crying because, like you said, her plans for the farm were falling by the wayside

I don't think she was in love with Ada, but I'm sure she felt jealous of Inman to a degree

Yes, I think Ruby loved Ada and visa versa. But I don't think they were In love with each other. They had been through hell together for several years and I think bonded by that, just like a sister or brother. But Ruby had the hots for Georgia and Ada never deviated in her longing for Inman.

There are all kinds of love in this world that is not sexual.

Agreed. As for her crying, I think it may have been a combination of things. She knew Ada had waited so long for Inman and now had the chance to "wrap her legs around his body", as Ruby had so matter of factly put it earlier. She probably also wished for some of the same sort of thing herself. They'd also been through the emotionally and physically draining task of helping her injured father.

There were plenty of reasons for her to shed tears at that time.🐭

I got that feeling as well. I feel as though her "plans for the farm" statement was a cover up.

Ruby had 'Georgia on her mind'--- and who wouldn't?

I don't think she was in love with Ada, she was crushing on Georgia! I think the two women had a strong bond and did love each other but no, I don't think it was romantic on either end. Ruby definitely felt threatened by inman's return. As she says to Ada, she has plans for black cove and was probably worried that she was going to lose her home and her best friend.

When ruby is crying in the hut I always thought she had a small, sad smile on her face? I thought she was crying because she was moved by what the two reunited lovers were saying to one another and that she was happy for Ada. If ruby really wanted to keep Ada all to herself I don't see why she would have gotten up to sleep with her dad. She left that hut empty so Ada and Inman could be together for the night.
