A lot of tragedy and hardship he went through. That's what I kept thinking as I watched the movie at the theatre over ten years ago. It was deeply touching when, at the end, he admits to Ada about how hard his life has been.

I agree. These were hard, tough times and the film reflects aspects of both Shakespearean and Greek tragedies.🐭
