I want to see this movie....anywhere, anyhow!

I think enough time has passed for "Abilene" to be finally released either theatrically, on dvd, bluray disc, HD-DVD, whatever!

I know it's similarities to David Lynch's "The Straight Story" kept it out of circulation at the time of it's initial screenings at film festivals around 1999 (plus the fact that the Lynch picture was a major studio production and this a small scale independant one) and must be irritating to everyone involved in this movie--the actors, directors, writers as well as the investors--that this movie predated "The Straight Story" by a couple of years.

I know both movies have essentially the exact same premise--including the one-joke that made "The Straight Story" a quirky classic in many people's opinion and no doubt would have made "Abilene" far more memorable had anybody got to see it--but both gave their central actors great roles. In the case of "The Straight Story", it gave Richard Farnsworth the role of his life as well as an Oscar nomination. I am a huge Ernest Borgnine fan and he has gone on record saying "Abilene" had some of his best work as well as being the last films of both Kim Stanley and Alan North.

I only hope one day the movie can finally be released--after nearly a decade, I personally think it's time has come.
