Do you think Samantha told the girls she cheated on Smith?

I was just watching the episode in Season 6 Part Two where she cheats on Smith with Richard, and I wondered if she ever told the girls about it. Since there isn't a scene in which she tells them, but Carrie is doing a voice over... Just wondered what everyone thought! :)

Why wouldn't she? Is she shy about what happened? It was a pivotal moment in realizing what she thought she wanted vs. what she needed.

I also thought since Samantha and Smith were not in a relationship and what she said to him before she went up with Richard sounded like a break up, I don't consider it cheating.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

I don't think she would tell them. Why would she tell then? She hardly divulged that type of information, but she may have told Carrie if she told anyone. Also, I don't think that Carrie was told everything that she would monologu, it was more of an omnipresent thing for the viewers. On a side note, if they weren't in a relationship then why was she so feeling so bad about what she did and why was Smith so hurt. One does not need to say they are in a relationship to be in one.

Since the story is told by Carrie through her column, I always assumed that they told her everything. What we know of the story is from her sex and the city column/books. Imagine the things she didn't put in!

reply

I agree SweetSar99, I always thought Carrie knew everything cuz she wrote about it in her column... I thought the voice over was her column verbatim.

I don't think Samantha was shy about what happened, I'm sure she did tell the girls. I just thought it was weird there wasn't a scene showing this. As I feel like they tell each other everything. I'm sure Charlotte would've just judged her, so if she told anyone, it probably would've been Carrie.

And I do think Samantha & Smith were in a relationship, yes she kind of 'broke up' with him right before she went upstairs with Richard but I mean, Smith didn't even have time to say anything so from his point of view, they could've still been together... I don't know, this is all just speculation.

I could have sworn that Carrie would narrate things that occur with the other girls that she either could not know about or were explicitly told that said person never told something to someone else.

reply

Hmmm, like thoughts they were having but wouldn't likely tell Carrie in passing?

Sort of, like when Samantha was with Dominic and he broke up with her when she let her guard down. She was intending on getting revenge but he smooth talked her into getting back together and then he dumps her again. A voice over says that Samantha was glad she hadn't got to the point of being emotionally steel and that him hurting her revealed she had feelings. Miranda and Charlotte didn't even know about him and how he broke Sams heart. I do not see her telling anyone about her feelings or what occurred. Another instance were Samantha was doing PR for the 13 year old girl and when she observes them she realizes she was happy to have had a childhood. When Samantha was dating the "WE" guy and he ends up standing her up for dinner and she nearly breaks down because she was vulnerable being alone in the restaurant. The thing with Smith and Richard, I don't see her telling anyone about it ,not even Carrie. I think some instances Carrie was speaking purely for the audience. Samantha never divulged sensitive information on that scale that deals with her feelings. She did do that for James, but that was a different, more realistic Samantha. Idk, maybe i'm wrong.

reply

Yeah, exactly. I get what you mean, I don't think Samantha ever wanted the girls to see her vulnerable. Not sure why, but she was always so strong & put on a happy face around them. Even when she had cancer she was a rock! I love the line; "I don't wanna loose my breasts... they're fabulous!"

reply

Samantha was always the strong one that didnt like to be seen as weak thus why her highly sex life since she wanted to be strong or on equal footing to a man.

reply

The thing is though, she wasn't anywhere near as strong as she acted. She didn't sleep around to be on a even playing field with men, she slept around for validation, low self-esteem and an inability to maintain relationships.

reply

Did she really sleep with him? I was always under the impression she changed her mind and came back down after only a few mins.

Did you possibly see the edited version? There was a very graphic scene were Richard is behind Samantha going at it. However, Samantha has this blank far away look on her face like she not even there.

Yes!!! I totally forget that I am used to the edited versions. I didn't get HBO until the series was over and aren't as familiar with the real episodes.

Thanks! I will have to revisit that one!
