Hollywood better do a good job

the old lupin movie looks cool, slightly cheese, but still cool

but Hollywood trying to make an anime film is a recipe for disaster, I'm not as worried about this as I am for akira.

I mean its comedy, how can they screw up...

hears hoping they don't Americanize it...

Well it will be a high chance that it will be screwed up and change most of the names.

I don't mind if there is a good director aslong as they don't change the names or personalities.

In theory this should be one of the easier anime shows to translate onto film since it is just regular people stealing things instead of supernatural or sci-fi concepts. Just do it with the style of Catch Me If You Can or Ocean's Eleven and you're in like flint.

But yeah, the director and cast are crucial. Wouldn't want Rob Cohen or Paul W.S. Anderson to get behind the lens, nor Ben Affleck or Vin Diesel to become the world's greatest thief. I think it is also imperative that Fujiko be someone entirely not famous. In fact, make most of them unknowns. I do, however, like the idea of Jason Lee as Lupin and Bruce Campbell as Zenigata, like in that faux-poster image.

I doubt there would be name changes for this since the cast is *supposed* to be international and the names are all "cool sounding" and easy to say anyways.

holy crap, bruce campbell would be PERFECT for Zenigata. yea, i agree, most of the leads should definately be relatively unknonwn.

also, are they making a movie, or are you guys just hoping?

also, is this the series on adult swim or is it the 1977 one?

Yes, they are making a movie.

This message board is for the original 23-episode series from '71. The '77 one, Lupin III: Part II, is the one they show on Adult Swim. It has 155 episodes. For some reason, everyone does their message board postings at this page though, probably because it's the one that comes up first when you search Lupin III. This one is actually not licensed yet, which kinda baffles me.

To me Lupin looks like Jim Carrey, but after the flop that was Fun with Dick and Jane i bet nobody wants to see him as a funny thief no more.
