Boney, and Bony

A note here to remind people that there was a later series, BONY, made in 1992 (IMDb tt0101051). The later version used the same B-O-N-Y spelling as in Upfield's books. The earlier series changed it to BONEY because the makers were afraid of viewers refering to it as 'Bonny'.

Arthur Upfield, who wrote the Detective Inspector Bonaparte books did intend the spelling to be "Boney", but the printer of the first edition messed it up, and Upfield was stuck with it.

There was a rumour in the 1970s that the Sony corporation had put pressure on the TV production people to alter the spelling of their series, but this actually isn't true.

The "other" BONEY series was absolute rubbish and had nothing to do with Upfield's Bony character at all.

The full story of the TV series can now be found on the official "Making Of...", which is created not as a book but as a PDF file to read on computers. It has masses of photos and exclusive interviews with the producer, the directors and controversial star James Laurenson himself), a copy of the "Boney" series theme by composer Sven Libaek and lots more stuff including a biography of Arthur Upfield.
