Pantera

man this was a complete trainwreck. they barely focused on the band at all. it seemed like the whole thing was just a big effort to demonize Phil Anselmo, and of course he didn't help things by making himself look like a smug bastard. all in all, this could've been a lot better.

seeing Dimebag's father cry was kinda sad though.

Yeah I know. I enjoyed it though. I just loved Phil's whole image and the way he talked though. "Don't underestimate the kid." Heh heh.

Yeah that was very sad when Dime's father started crying, and the other guy too. Or anyone who did. That whole part was very well done though. It was just shocking how they showed the gunfire scenes though, I didn't think they'd show even that much. And I had no idea 4-5 other people got killed there, it was just incredibly shocking.

I like that they went and showed all their major albums though, from Cowboys through Reinventing the Steel. I had no idea they formed in '81, same year as Metallica, heh heh, but they were even younger than Metallica!

Overall I think it was very well done.

LOL I even watched and TAPED the Ratt show, it had some interesting moments too.

I caught this by pure chance (missed the Ratt episode, hope to catch it soon) It was great to see Pantera on T.V. though there's is such a tragic story. I hate to see what became of one of my all time favorite bands (Dimebag will always rule with Randy Rhoads, Hendrix) It's too bad Phil went off his rocker though he is a badass m*&^%F@#er!At least in terms of his lyrics and delivery (did anyone catch him jamming with Alice in Chains?). Seeing Dime and Vinnie's dad crying was REALLY sad.

Anselmo was trashed. He is such a screw up. I still can figure out where Rex stands. He went off with Phil to do Down II in 2001 and according to Dime in Guitar World both Rex and Phil were incommunicado after that. Now he shows up at Dime's funeral, on BTM, and he played bass on the record they made with David Allan Coe. What gives? If he didn't bail like Phil did why wasn't he in damageplan?

i just finished watching this...I got to say Phil and Vinnie make good arguments, but why keep the bad blood? They both messed up as far as I am concerned, but they need to put that behind them.

Also, that video of the shooting was chilling. But the thing that got me the most of the look on the cop's face after he shot Nathan Gale. Then some dude was congratulating him, which i thought was a little bizarre. Either it was tragic. And finally, a very classy move on VH1's part for putting the in memory of for all the people that died...not just Dime, must respect.

The man wasn't congratulating the cop... he was trying to comfort him because the cop looked pretty upset for having to shoot someone. If I remember correctly, I think the man said, "You had do it. You just saved a man's life, you did the right thing." ...I don't think that's a congratulations.

reply

Sorry I should have stated that better. The guy's tone sounded congratulatory

Yeah, he was comforting the cop. It's one thing to say you'd kill somebody if you had to (like in this situation). It's another thing to actually DO it. Like Clint Eastwood said in Unforgiven: "It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. You take away all he's got, and all he's ever gonna have."

And regardless of what a lot of people say, I feel bad for Phil Anselmo. Yes, he brought a lot of it on himself, but we all screw up with our friends. Hopefully we're not too messed up in our own lives to heal the wounds, just as Phil was unable to. You think anybody feels worse about this than him? Yeah, Dime had actual family members who lost him, so that's a kind of hurt that you can only understand by experiencing it, but Phil is the only one who has had to carry the burden of screwing over a friend, never making amends, and not even being allowed to attend the funeral or be with his family. That's a totally different kind of pain that he alone has to endure.

And Phil says that the metal media spun all of the animosity out of control. I'm sure there's some b.s. in that, but there's gotta be some truth too. In every story, there's always three sides. There's one person's side, there's the other person's side, then there's the truth, which is usually somewhere in the middle. Everybody's so quick to run the man down, but nobody (at least in public opinion) is willing to forgive him and help him back to his feet. That is the mark of a TRUE man (or woman).

They definitely tried to make Phil look bad. I thought it was going to be mostly about Phil, Dimebag dying, and what Phil and the others thought about it. But they just made him look like a drug addicted lead singer who continues to hold beef with the band. They LOVE to work the magic of editing to make people look bad.

Phil Anselmo does not come across well in interviews.
