I love this movie (and book)

I can go on and on about it, but I have this one nagging question: what is with the part in Germany when Jos is being hosed down? That is so strange and I have never been able to grasp it. Anyone out there that can help?

Marge: he prefers the company of men. Homer: who doesn't?

I haven't seen the mini-series, but Vanity Fair is one of my favorite books. Are you referring to the part where everyone is in Brussels? If so, I don't think there's a part where Jos gets hosed down. Maybe it's only in the mini-series? It could be the creation of the writers to illustrate a point that would be missed otherwise.

Yes, I thought it was Germany- how quickly I forget things. I don't remember it in the book but it is so strange. I wonder what they could possibly mean by that scene. It reminds me of Deliverance and the pig-squeeling thing- very bizarre!
I still highly recommend the movie. It is almost as good as Pride and Prejudice and gives a really interesting new look into Regency life. Maybe I'll watch it again today since I am sick and yesterday I watched P&P again. Later.

Oh wait, no not Belgium and the Waterloo part it is later when Jos and Amelia and little Georgie go with Dobbin on vacation. When they arrive a bad friend of Becky's tells Jos to go to this place and the next scene is a wicked looking man hosing down a naked Jos in a big shower and Georgie is watching. Does anyone know what that is about?

Marge: he prefers the company of men. Homer: who doesn't?

reply

I think the hosing thing is meant to be some kind of spa treatment, it's just thrown in for laughs. Nothing more to it than that.

I think I know what you're talking about. I haven't seen the mini-series, but i did see the Mira nair one. I think whent hey were in Germany, it was some place called Baden-Baden. I know that in the other movie, Becky is working in the casino in baden-Beaden, but I don't knwo if it's the same in the mini-series.

Oh!

We're here; we're clear; we don't want anymore bears!

I believe it's the result of Jos giving the Major's name at the Edelweiss. Remember that when Becky is told to leave before his Lordship returns in 2 weeks, his man mentions that the Major could go to the gallows if his doings were discovered.

So when Jos mentioned his name at the Edelweiss, thinking it would benefit him, instead he was punished for his association with the Major.

I think.
