What SHOULD they have played

What songs should we have heard at the Wembley gig? I love it as it is, of course, but a few great songs are missing.

Keep yourself alive should have definitly been in there.

I was lucky to be at this concert and it was an amazing day.

My favourite era of Queen is the pre synthesiser days so I was wishing that they'd played the heavy stuff like Liar, Ogre Battle, Its Late and White Man.

Brian's Brighton Rock guitar solo in recent years has been disappointing. In the old days they started Brighton Rock as on the record but after Brian did his solo in the middle they segued into Son and Daughter to close the track. But they hadn't done it that way since 1976 so I suppose it was asking too much to do it at this gig!

Help me out here, if you can. I just got the "Live at Wembley Stadium" DVD, but the cover is different from the one shown here, and the inside jacket has "Queen - A Magic Show" on it. There is no date on it, except the release date of 2003.

Is this the same concert??? Thanx...

reply

Yes, it is the same concert. It is the FULL concert, though. The VHS version (pictured) has many songs edited out.

I agree about KYA. That would have sounded good in the medley-like in The Works tour.
The little bit of Liar that they DID play was a good teaser. It works well as a lead-in to Tear it Up.
I would have loved to hear Princes of the Universe thrown in there.
I have always loved the 'mash up' of Dragon Attack and Put Out the Fire. I wish they would have played that more in general - not just on this tour.
Finally, Staying Power. The live version just has so much...power.

Ogre Battle. I love that song.

"People like him have something inside. Something to do with death."
Once Upon a Time in the West

i would have liked them to play Ogre Battle, Great King Rat and Fat Bottomed Girls.

As you can see by looking at my signature, Ogre Battle is my favorite song. Ever. But I think they performed it too slow live, if they played it as fast as on the record (or faster) it would be the best live song ever.

It would be great if it looked like this:

1. One Vision
2. Tie Your Mother Down
3. Ogre Battle
4. Seven Seas of Rhye
5. Liar
6. It's a Hard Life
7. Under Pressure (With Bowie)
8. Another One Bites the Dust
9. Who Wants to Live Forever?
10. Medley - Killer Queen
Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy
Bicycle Race
Death on Two Legs
I'm in Love With My Car (Freddie on vocals)
11. Brighton Rock
12. Now I'm Here
13. Love of My Life
14. White Queen (As It Began)
15. Rock n' Roll medley (But with different songs)
16. Bohemian Rhapsody
17. Hammer to Fall
18. Don't Stop Me Now
19. Spread Your Wings
20. Big Spender
21. We Will Rock You (Fast)
22. Keep Yourself Alive
23. It's Late
24. We Are the Champions
25. God Save The Queen

Oh, this would be so awesome.

Come tonight, come to the ogre sight, come to ogre battle - FIGHT

That line-up looks good. Could I just mention that "It's a hard life" was recorded after the concert at Wembley (either 1989 for the "Miracle"-album or 1991 for "Innuendo"). "I Want it All" is a great track too, which they recorded later in their career. Would have loved to hear them play that one at Wembley.

reply

It's a Hard Life is from 1984's The Works. I guess you mixed some tracks up there.

More hard rock, less pop. But that was impossible I suppose, as they were just promoting their new "pop" album. So it would really be too much to expect "Friends Will Be Friends", "A Kind Of Magic", "Radio Ga Ga" or "I Want To Break Free" be replaced by "Keep Yourself Alive", "Liar", "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Sheer Heart Attack"...

So I don't really have any wishes as for the setlist, I'd just love to hear Freddie in MUCH more powerful voice (as in Montreal'81) and a much more hard-rock approach to the songs by the rest of the band ("fatter" guitar and drum sound, less synth keyboards, more piano playing from Freddie etc.)....
