WHY are video games on this site?

WHY are they listing video games??

reply

Because you touch yourself at night.

Everywhere I go nowadays, I hear that line.

:D

Anyway, I for one think it's a good idea. Video games are just another form of media, like books or movies. There's no OTHER place that has a complete catalogue of video games so...

Also, it is nice to see some of the other projects that the actors or game developers have been in. Some actors are in one or two games, then I come here and find out they have been in all sorts of movies, or did bit parts on TV shows, etc. It's fun to find out things like that about them. :-)

It has a FAR more "complete" catalogue of video games than IMDB could ever hope to have. Then again, THIS is more of a media site, while that's more of a game site. If you're looking for voice actors in a game, you're better off here...

reply

Because there are actors in it stupid.

For the same reason the site lists the voice actors of animated shows, or movies like Tron (which, while mostly computer-generated, still has actors in it).

A number of games made in the early 90's - like the Myst series, 7th Guest, Wing Commander 3 & 4, Gabriel Knight 2, some of the Command and Conquer games, and so on - make use of FMV (Full-Motion Video) scenes, which require both actors and a film crew.

Games like the Grand Theft Auto series, on the other hand, use all computer-animation, but mesh that with voice-over work by famous actors (check the three most recent Grand Theft Auto games, and you'll be AMAZED by the actors in them). GTA is hardly the only game of that type - a lot of movie-licensed games are doing it (Enter the Matrix going so far as to use real scenes filmed with the real actors from the movies).

So yes, there are most CERTAINLY games that belong here. Granted, you probably shouldn't see Pac-Man or anything... but almost any game made after 1990 or so is fair game.

(Besides which, there are some games out there with better plots than many movies - there are some who would argue that the Knights of the Old Republic games have better plots than anything Lucas himself wrote in the last 20 years...)

Considering Bioware is all about story (Baldur's Gate) I wouldn't be surprised...

I'm going to say I disagree. Yeah, the prequals were not the best, but knights of the old republic was almost as bad as Star Wars Jedi Power battles for GBA.

As a student of film music who is particularly interested in soundtracks in video games, I find it quite helpful, especially when cross-referencing the two fields. So that's another reason.
