...Hulu has landed Myst, a drama series based on the classic 1990s video game, with a script-to-series commitment.

Too bad it's so short! I would love it, actually, if instead of basing the series off of Myst and Riven, it would tell the story of Ti'ana, or be more based off of the Book of Atrus. I don't know how many people have read the novels, so the story and concept would seem a bit fresher if they went that direction.

It seems that shows and films based around games themselves aren't that great, at least not usually. Basing it around a novel or simply the MYST universe would be better.

Oh well. It might prove me wrong and be an amazing series that revives interest in the franchise!

Indeed, Myst - the groundbreaking game - is going to be a TV series, not a movie.
This looks like this might be the upcoming IMDB entry for it:

And here's some old news:
http://venturebeat.com/2015/05/05/after-decades-of-efforts-myst-tv-live-action-show-to-debut-on-hulu/
one of the more interesting comments in that thread talks about how the producer of this series doesn't quite have a reputation for delivering good dialogue, if you look at their track record that includes Krampus and Godzilla 2: http://www.imdb.com/company/co0159111/

I fear that whatever this series will offer, will in no way be as groundbreaking as the 1993 game was, and will deliver only things we have already seen... and will not be very impressive in this day and age. Something I would find really painful, for the Myst legacy.

I am, however, very much looking forward to the new game Obduction:
