Bring back Rowlf! Bring back Teeth! Bring out uncut MFC DVD!

From the trivia on Muppet Treasure Island:

"Upon Jim Henson's death it was said that Rowlf the Dog would never be used again, for this was Henson's signature character. As a memorial of sorts Rowlf is seen in a few shots, once when the creatures are leaving the tavern, and also in a few shots beforehand. However, out of respect for Jim Henson, he never speaks."

In Muppets From Space, Rowlf has only one line. So does Doctor Teeth. My question is:

WHAT FREAKING IDIOT THOUGHT THIS WAS A REMOTELY LOGICAL IDEA???!!!@#$^&* When a great artist dies, someone conaiders it "respectful" to hide away his immortal creation and never show it again??? Imagine: "Out of respect for Da Vinci, after his death in 1519, his signature painting Mona Lisa was sealed up in a leaden casket and buried in the catacombs of Paris forever, not to be shown in art galleries again." "Out of respect for Sir Laurence Olivier, after his death in 1989, theatres around the world ceased forever to put on performances of Hamlet, because this was Olivier's signature play." "Out of respect for Frank Sinatra, his signature song My Way was never performed, recorded, sung or hummed in any way after his death in 1998."

You see how counterintuitive the whole idea is? Art is supposed to live on so each generation doesn't have to reinvent the wheel! Someone pointed out that Jim Henson would probably want Rowlf to continue after his death!

I'm not familiar with the post-1999 Muppet TV shows. Do Rowlf and Teeth have substantial roles in them? If not, then someone's common sense is faulty. Those two characters were pivotal in Jim Henson's universe! Take out Teeth, and you take out the Electric Mayhem Band which dominated plots and scenes in the old series. Pepe the King Prawn and the huge pink guy (not Floyd, but the one seen throughout MFS, whatever his name is) are annoying substitutes who do nothing for me.

Adding insult to injury, Muppet Family Christmas is still not available in its entirety. This 1987 TV special has great moments from favorites including Rowlf and Teeth, plus Jim Henson himself, clearly seen in a memorable guest appearance, for one of the last times. The DVD of this omits many scenes including the pivotal musical numbers "A Bear and a Snowman Like You" and "Home For the Holidays," as well as scenes including Gonzo's argument with the Turkey over Gonzo's species identity. The absence of the genuine, uncut MFC from the DVD market is a travesty almost as unconscionable as the burning of Alexandria.

I've heard there's a Muppet theatrical release planned for 2012. If the powers that be are not utter morons, Rowlf and Teeth should have major roles.

I agree about MFC, but I think it's mostly about television rights versus video rights regarding a few of the songs.

As far as voices, I'm not sure. My favorite voices right now are Gonzo, Rizzo and Pepe, mostly because they're among the few stars still voiced by the original actors. I understand the need to find replacements for such keys as Kermit, Fozzie, Piggy, W&S, etc. but they'll probably never sound "real" to me.

I agree with you. It's Pretty stupid to rarely ever use Rowlf is one of my faveorite muppets, they found replacements for everyone else and no one noticed the difference! If J. Henson was so fond of Rowlf he should be used frequently.
