Marley

I haven't seen this movie, but heard about it only because Marley the Dog acts in it... where's his name on these credits? It's a shame today's odd film industry shuns straight-to-video movies and prevents supposedly decent movies (the reviews on here seem very positive) from being seen, while releasing horrible ones such as those in the box office right now. More and more people are making movies, increasing the indie output... people need to distribute these movies, they really can be a lot better than the huge-budget, pointless studio feats out there. And people wonder why no one goes to the theater anymore... Read "Marley and Me" by John Grogan if you're a dog lover.

Thats exactly what I was looking for, I am reading the book and wanted to see his name in the credits!!!! I was disappointed it wasnt there.

I'm reading the book right now and I got past the part where Marley was in the film. Grogan says he was credited "Marley the Dog as Himself". I don't have the movie so I can't check. This movie is out of production so it's hard to get. I saw it on eBay a few days ago for under $5 and I waited too long and the auction is over. I'm kicking myself! Now someone else has a copy brightly claiming it has the famous Marley in it and they are charging $18! I'm not paying that much for a VHS no matter how much I want to see Marley.

I agree^. I'm reading the book as well. But I heard that a company bought the rights to make that book into a movie. It was on the news. Just out of curiousity, what kinda dogs do you guys have? Wow wow wow. I just went on ebay and saw a used one for VHS that is 35 dollar with 2 days left. So I decided to check the completed listings to see how much they went for. To my surprise it was even sold at a higher price for 65 dollars. Maybe I can rent it somewhere.

i just read the part about Marley being in the movie. I am loving this book so far- I have a Jack Russell Terrier/Greyhound(ish) mix name Abby.

reply

In his Philly Inquirer column Grogan mentioned that Marley is only on screen for about 2 minutes. Caveat emptor.

EDIT: Restlesshero, I have a 7 year old female red Doberman rescue dog.

reply

"$5"?....."$18"?

Where are these prices coming from? I've checked and have seen this movie for no less than $50!! I've even seen it going for $97!! I'd surly buy th movie even if it were for $18!

reply

heyy. The Marleys name is in the credits click more and it says marley the dog played by marley the dog

reply

I am reading the book right now aswell and was also disapointed not to see his name in the credits. Even if Marley was only on screen for a few minutes. Its an amazing book though!

reply

Marley is in the credits here, I'm not sure if he's in the movie credits though. you just have to view all the cast. I too loved Marley and Me. great book!

I think the point is no one has really seen this movie and now with the popularity of Marley I think maybe they should think about putting it back in print or at least air it on T.V. I just finished the book and loved and I dont think I would like to see it in a movie.Im am very comfotable with the images John Grogan put in my head, no movie could do as good of job..it took me 3 days to read the book. A half a day for the first 240 pages, after that reading it became painful. took me 3 days to read the last 50 pages..I loved the book and would like to see it stay that way.. only Marley was Marley, unscripted, unabridged and unhinged..the best thing about this movie the last home run depicts this and thats what we want to see.. the dog who ruined a movie then became the star stealing the thunder of well paid vetrans.. I for one dont want to see a benji in a Marley suit..I hope they reprint this one..By the way its over forty dollars now on ebay

I just finished reading Marley and Me and like yourself, I read the first 250 pages and couldn't bear to finish it. I am dead serious when I say that I was crying. I think that they should turn that book into a movie. It'll be very touching and something that I'm sure a lot of people might want to see.

reply

Same with me about reading Marley and Me. I want to see the movie because I want to see that crazy dog in action!!! Loved the book, movie would be bad bc they could never get the real thing, huh.

And I unabashedly weeped all throughout the end of the book.

reply

Like you as well, I just finished "marley and me" 10 minutes ago. My eyes are still very wet, as per the fact that I cried for about 30 minutes. I mean seriously let it out. When I read that book, It was like Marley was apart of my life as well... I hope one day they put out a movie... It would probably be something i would not hesitate to watch!

Just FYI, the movie's distributor is Tapeworm Video Distributors and it looks like you can purchase a copy directly from them. Price is outrageous @ $38.00. Go to Tapeworm.com

They've got some other interesting titles on the main/home page. LOL

I checked eBay and came up empty. I'm gonna get in touch with a few friends of mine and see what can be done about procuring a copy (wink wink nudge nudge). 'Cause in life, it's not what you know, it's who you know.

I just have to laugh at the name of the distribution company for this film, Tapeworm. Heeheheheh parasite eating money from people wanting to see this film.

I just looked up this section of IMDB specifically because I read "Marley and Me". I join many of you respondents to this post in being dissapointed in not seeing Marley's credit listed in the cast list. Given how the popularity of "Marley and Me" is spiking interest in this film, I hope someone in charge of releasing the cast list for "Last Home Run" will now feel obligated to have Marley's credit added to the cast list here on IMDB.

I also agree with another poster here that there should be a movie version of "Marley and Me". I think the movie version should include actual footage from "Last Home Run". The book is so cinematic that it lends itself to having a movie adaptation. I read "Marley and Me" in 3-5 days and it was the first book I have ever read that has resulted in me crying.

I read the book, couldn't put it down. I have a one year old golden lab, too, who is hypersctive like the special education kids I teach. So I HAD to get the book. Now I am reading it to my class, leaving out anything that is not strictly G rated, of course. I want to get the movie to show to the kids, but if it's $38, forget it. Teachers aren't rich!

I am also Reading the book! Love It!!! I looked for the movie online & found (only)one on Amazon for $97.95!!!! I guess the book has really raised the poppularity for seeing this video. They should re-release it on DVD, they'd probably make a good buck on it now :)

reply

Ditto to comments above. I also have a 3 year old yellow Lab so I went looking, but I can't find the movie either. Now that I'm finished the book, I'm aching to catch a glimpse of Marley in the film... all two minutes of him! :)

I've only watched half the movie so far but Marley RULES when he's in a scene (e.g., all you can focus your mind on is his breathing and/or barking in the scene outside the hotel).

The movie is rather wistful, however, and probably stands up fairly well on its own. I still found myself wishing for MORE DOG in several scenes.

Love Marley, love the book, and am glad this movie let us see him in action, no matter if just for a few fleeting moments.

I am reading the book also and as soon as i got that part i thought- i have to go on imdb and check this out. It is a wonderful book and i would like to see the movie now if i ever get a chance.

Oh and i also have a dog named Abby. She is a rat terrier.

I am reading this as I type and my dog looked exactly, exactly like Marley in the b&w photo's in the book..I can relate, but our dog was super mellow and had many of the protective, spiraling moments like Marley..I have to stop reading however as my dog Chopper met his fate with old age bad hips, poor eyesight and that Florida skin allergy..I miss him so much.

I will see this movie some day and in the meantime, I will continue to love and appreciate the 11 years I had with that dog. His grabbing your arm in a playful pose, his cumbersome size and the way he knocked things over with his magnificent tail. His love of my children and his good nature. Also the way he got his collar caught on our huge table and pulled the table clear across the room when the cable man came and my son was alone with me at the time

RIP
Chopper

I LOVE YOU!

Well, I am on the last few pages of the book and I am having a hard time finishing it, due to tearing-up. Anyway, I will look for the movie and after I watch it I will let you guys know, perhaps we can share a copy instead of paying a riduclous amount.

Ditto. It took me as long to read the last 2 chapters as it did to read the rest. I hardly ever cry, but this book really hit home. My 'Marley' is named Gretchen. She's a 12 year old Doberman mix that I once compared to the Terminator because she was so unrelenting. She even has the bad hips that Marley developed and I have to help her up the stairs. Reading the book has me appreciating her even more and charishing the days she has left.

I'd love to see this movie. Does Blockbuster have it?
