Young Lady Snowblood vs. Master Swordsman

Did the master swordsman slice through her kimono and the wind blow it off or did she remove it herself? It she removed it, what was her motive? Did she think she could distract him? It seems the whole point of the exercise was to find out what she would do when unarmed against a sword yielding attacker.
