Doris Day Intro for J.T.

Hi Friends,

In the second season box of the Doris Day Show, there are extras. One of those includes Doris Day talking about how her show will not be seen that night because of J.T.!! She said it was a wonderful movie in the promo. I had no idea that it debuted at night. I thought it was always on CBS during the kids' hours!! You learn something every day,

Yes this movie premiered on prime-time in 1969. I remember the night it was shown, I was just a kid and cried so much at the end...even though they TRIED to make it a happy ending. I'd be a little afraid to see this film again, with 30 years of pet heartbreaks for me. This movie and "Snowgoose" are total tear-jerkers.

see http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=FB0715F639581B7493C1A8 1789D95F4D8685F9&scp=2&sq=J.T.&st=p - you have to pay for the article, but the headline is proof.

J.T. was produced for a CBS "Children's Hour" (think ABC's Afterschool Special), that never caught on as a franchise. It was shown on Saturday, 12/13/1969 at noon - normally a slot for cartoons or CBS' Children's Film Festival (Kukla - Fran - Ollie - odd European shorts - remember?). It got such rave reviews, CBS decided to give it a primetime airing.

"Well, there it is."
