Help find copy of "J.T." 1969 TV movie!

I have looked for this movie for about twenty years. I was a young girl when I saw it on TV and it had a profound affect on me. I am now in my forties and would LOVE to see it again and show it to those I love. Please help me find a copy to purchase. Does anyone know where one is? THANKS!

reply

I saw your message on IMDb. I have just begun looking for the movie. I had seen it as a child and am now coincidentally reading it to my class at school. I didn't realize it was the same thing until I got to the line where the grandma asks "What you want for Christmas, child?" And J.T. answers "A cat. I want me this cat I found." My brothers and I acted that out over and over. Did you have any luck finding it? I would love to show it to my students.
Thanks.

I had thought about this movie on and off for about 20 years, and have never been able to find it. I just happened to think about it again and once again started looking and happened upon this message board. Well after some looking I did run across a site that says that this video is available from Carousel Films, Inc, they can be contacted at 1-800-683-1660. I haven't tried calling them yet (it's Saturday) but come Monday morning I'm gonna give them a try. Good luck.

This movie is always overlooked for some reason, when it should be a perennial favorite. In fact, when it was first aired if received such tremendous response that it was given an encore showing a week or so later. It reappeared for a couple of years, and then just disappeared. I haven't seen it on tv since, except for an airing sometime within the last 5 years on cable.

It is a great film, and can be found on ebay occasionally, and on some video trading sites. Hopefully Carousel will have it. Good luck!

I will also call for a copy of this film, though I'm afraid that after all these years the memory of it will exceed the actuality. I didn't realize that great actors like Kevin Hooks, Ja'Net Dubois, Holland Taylor and Theresa Merrit were in it and that it was written by Jane Wagner. For years I thought it was called P.J. and could find no information about it. I recall watching it on t.v. as a kid with my father, never an emotional guy. When I was brought to tears, my brother made fun of me and my father told him to stop then he smiled at me. He was crying too! It is one of my favorite memories of my late dad. I remember reading the book also. He fed the cat cans of tuna and kept it in a refrigerator. And that ending!!! Boxes of Kleenex!

Yes indeed... "I want me this cat I found" was definitely "the" line you remember from this movie!
I guess I would have been 7 or 8 (born in '62)
when I first saw it, and I looked for it every year afterward. It usually ran around Thanksgiving or Christmas I think.
I am very thankful that my brother turned me on to the IMDb.
It has brought back MANY childhood memories! H.R. Puff n stuff, Lidsville, etc.,
etc., etc. I to will try the phone # above to see if a copy is available.
I'll try to post the results ASAP. Be Blessed!

Hi,

I read your recolection of the movie J.T.

Yes, it's been since 1969 since I saw it. I have something on audio tape from december of 1969. It is a promotional anouncement for JT. It is on an old reel of tape I have that I recorded Saturday cartoons as a boy. I have two recordings of the spot on JT. On one,The announcer says "He took what he wanted until a stray cat taught him the joy of giving". Then a meow from the poor cat.
Then the announcer says "The CBS Childrens Hours presents a Christmas story of JT...." it gives a date but I can't recall the exact date. Then the other recorded announcement mentions "An encore presentation" and that is when the movie was brouadcast a second time within a week or two of the first airing. I know this was in December of 1969.

I would love to see the movie again. I have not seen it since then when I was 12 years old. Now I am 46!! I was quite impressed with it. It's nice to know that others are touched by some seemingly forgotten hour long movie. I'm so glad that I have kept that tape with the JT announcents on it. As well as ALL my old tapes I made as a boy of favorites TV shows and old commercials. They are priceless.! Hope you find a copy of JT.

I'm thrilled that so many people remember this film! That one line: "I want me this cat I found" has never left my memory. A truly great movie, though I'm getting choked up remembering the ending...

"I may be a butcher but I don't mince words".

It originally aired on December 13, 1969 (I remember because that was my 8th birthday). It touched me deeply, too.

Thank you, thank you for finding it on video! Don't worry about being disappointed. It aired once in 1982 or 1983, and luckily I caught it. Seeing it as an adult, I found it even more powerful and Kleenex-worthy. (After that, every year at Christmas throughout the 1980's, I wrote letters to the program director at CBS imploring them to show it again -- but to no avail. Now I can't wait to see it again!!)

This movie was filmed in the Bronx at St Martin of Tours Catholic School in 1969. I know because my class was asked to be in the classroom scene and I am in the front row of the class flipping pages in a book. I just called Carousel Films and left a message and hopefully they will call me back and have a copy of it. Thanks for letting me know about it.

Thanx too you and the information on this site I just happened too stumble on too, I have located the film JT that I was looking for on TV around the holidays for the past twenty years. I remember watching the movie around Christmas along with the Waltons Christmas which was easy too find online. I started with the name JJ which is the name my brother remembered, and ended my search here (love this technology). The price of $67.45 for a DVD seems high but it is a priceless movie that I think my kidds and others will truly enjoy. Has anyone successfully ordered this? I'm curious to know whether it is a quality product or not - since $60.00 strikes me as a bit high. I loved this show as a child and want to show it to my son. Coincidentally, I lived for a while with Kevin's aunt (Bobby Hooks' sister) in the early 60s. They were a great family - very warm and accepting.

I too have thought about this movie for years, and have tried finding it (I am almost forty). I remember watching it as a child around the holidays too. I have never forgotten it. Like the other writer said, computer technology is a Godsend. I did various searches, then cross searches until I located The White Shadow, then Kevin Hooks, then finally the movie title. I too will order this movie, as I want my daughter to see it also. Since we are talking about old shows, there is another one, a cartoon, I have never forgotten. If someone might know what the name is, it was about a boy and his dog, going on a journey I think, I believe the dogs name was "Arrow" some of the lyrics of a song were
"...me and my Arrow, straighter than narrow..."?? does this ring any bells for anyone? Please reply if you have any information. Thanks.

reply

ydl,

Your "Me and my Arrow" song comes from a delightful little movie called "The Point."

Thank you CalamityJean!! after reading your reply, I went straight to Amazon.com and ordered "The Point" I'll have it in a few days. This is another movie from my childhood I'm going to enjoy sharing with my daughter.
