John and Paul

Where were they. Sir George for all his efforts could only get Clapton, Dylan,Ringo, and a great bunch of session musicians?

This proved that he was more than just a second banana. Why would he need John or Paul? Also, I believe John didn't perform because he didn't want to hog the limelight. It was George's baby.

From Wikipedia:

Harrison first asked his fellow Beatles to appear. John Lennon agreed to take part in the concert, however Harrison stipulated that Lennon's wife Yoko Ono not perform with him. Lennon agreed, but left New York two days before the event following an argument with Ono regarding his and Harrison's agreement that she not participate. Paul McCartney declined because of the bad feelings caused by The Beatles' legal problems on their break-up. Ringo Starr, however, readily agreed to appear.

I think it turned out for the best, to let it be George's moment (for once).

George Harrison was a big part of the Beatles. He had multitude of fans.So did Ringo. In fact,Ringo was considered the most popular Beatle in the United States during the period of Beatlemania in the 1960's.Don't consider the Beatles as to be purely John Lennon and Paul McCartney. These guys may have written and composed most of the Beatle songs but George and Ringo were a big part of the band.

George and Ringo were the underrated Beatles. Everyone always talks about Lennon/McCartney, but George Harrison was equally a great songwriter. Ringo is the most underrated rock drummer, whose drum fills are signature to The Beatles' music.

I like this quote from Gary Wright: "I think in the early days up until 'Abbey Road,' everyone would focus on Lennon and McCartney. (But) they were (all) great singers (and) you had four incredible musicians."
