Since the setting was pre WWI, I was a little surprised when Anne stated "I want to be with you too Gil" when Gilbert stated how much he missed her when he was studying in New York. Kind of racy lines for that era, of course Anne and Gil are only human and were engaged for a long time. I'm surprised Anne agreed to stay in New York with Gil although they were not married yet, despite rentibng separate apartments, that was radical back then. No chaperone, strong temptation to engage in forbidden lust. I wonder how much rent was back then? I'm guessing $20 or $30/month
