Movie Haters...grr!

Ok first I hate the fact that most of you on this board hate the movie Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story. Even if it's not in the books, get over it. The acting is great, the movie plot is great. Even if it never happend, doesn't mean it couldn't have, I mean maybe it was in between the period after the 4 and 5th book? I haven't read all the books so I'm not sure. I really love this movie. It's a great part of any "Anne" fan's collection. I really think you should watch it, and put your mind in a different place, forget the books, just think that it's almost 5 years after the 2nd movie. If you feel this way about the movie let me know, I really love it. And so should you.

OMG! i agree 1000,000% with you. this movie is awesome! like i said in another post, anne isn't her old self becvause she's a grown up. people change. she did still have a temper.(we all love her temper lol)but, she didn't have time to imagine good things when shes trying to find gil and help save people and herself. i love this movie and megan as well. i no, who cares if its not like the books, at least they made another one for the fans. iam very glad they made another one. i was very impressed whn i first saw it. it was exactly what i expected:awesome.

so, i totally agree with you.

The first time I saw it I hated it. Then, a couple years later I decided to give it another try, thinking of it as something completely seperate from the Anne Stories. (I have the books and can't even say how many times I've read them. Literally every two to three years since I was 12. I'm now 35.) Anyway, The second time I watched it I hated it even more. I'm sorry but I agree with others. The story lines in the books were sooooo much better. There were so many things he could have done with that. By the way, if you haven't read them I definitely recommend it.

i don't know if I have that amount of enthusiasm for the 3rd as you guys but as a fan I still love the characters...I actually found the books a little draggy and have been trying to read 1-8 since I was about 9 years old. I am now 23 and have only been able to get through part of #5. I understand the anger of some people but I think you have to think of the books and the movies as separate forms of entertainment.

I agree, some of the comments are mean spirited. After all it took over a decade before Mr. Sullivan decided to do another film. I realize he had legal problems with LLM'S descendants over the previous two films. I really think people are getting their hopes up wishing for a new film. The original actors are hitting middle age, and have other projects to work on. Although it would be nice to see a 4th film where Anne and Gil are parents . If Mr. Sullivan does change his mind, I hope he produces a film before Anne and Gil are grandparents.

I thought the story was beautiful, even if it wasn't true to the books.
I loved the relationship between Gilbert and Anne...and her resolution to find him no matter what. I felt for Jack's unrequited pining after Anne.
And Diana's tumultuous relationship with Fred is so heartwrenching.
I cried so many times in this film...and I hardly ever cry.

I agree with exactly what you say here!

I loved it and though different from the other two (as time has passed and yes, it has been a decade since the first two adaptions were made) I think that this third installment can stand on its own!

Also, like I said in a previous post. Both the characters depicted in the movies AND books are NOT REAL so you don't get upset over changes. I just see it as two different styles of story telling! If you don't like the movies, well that is okay and if you don't like the novels then that is okay too!

I have read some of the Anne of Green Gables series and though different from the adaptions, don't mind the changes as I see the movies as standing on their own. And the Anne character is just as beautiful just like Gilbert's!

Agree completely. Thanks for posting. :)

I don't. Lousy acting with a poor, unbelievable plot. The writers and director pretty much mutilated LMM's characters. Apparently they didn't think her material was good enough and thought they could improve by writing an entirely new story and decimating LMM's characters in the process.

A true "Anne" fan would think this film is PURE GARBAGE.

OH Please tapetrader. I am a true fan and loved this movie. It showed the beautiful bond Anne and Gilbert had. Even my DH liked it and he prefers gore and guts lol.

I don't know what is so wrong for people to voice out their qualms about this film, particularly if their reasons are perfectly valid. I own this movie but I rarely watch it because it frankly, drives me nuts with all the anachronisms and plot holes found in it. I was aware that Sullivan couldn't get the legal rights for L.M.Montgomery, but I think he could have at least placed the movie within a plausible context. Instead of heartwarming stories of rural life in the 19th century and the wonderful Avonlea community, we essentially have a mediocre thriller trussed up as an Anne of Green Gables movie. The whole film is a complete antithesis to both Anne of Green Gables and its sequel.

To me this film is a perfect example of producers milking a franchise for all its worth, therby a product so redundant it would have been better if it were never made. If anyone disagrees with me, thats perfectly ok: if this movie had no relation whatsoever to do with the Anne Franchise I'd probably like it very much. As a true devotee of Anne, the film is unforgivable. If you don't believe me check out the press for Anne of Green Gables: The Prequel. Urgggggghhhhhhh

You have to be kidding. No, no no. It was horrible. I wish I had never watched it, as it tainted my Anne of Green Gables memories. I could barely sit through it! It's the sort of film you'd watch on Lifetime: Television for Women (I hate that damn station). It was predictable, badly-written and without heart. You'd think that Danielle Steel wrote this tripe screenplay.

I watched all three miniseries in sequence, and this one did not measure up to the other two at all. Even the music was awful. I was painfully disappointed in this one. I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't.

We are here to advise those who are not familiar with L.M. Montgomery's writing that this movie does not remain true to her writting. These books have been loved and cherished for generations, so if you don't want to hear from her fans who are angry at K.S. for ruining the movie, then don't come here. We have a right to demand that our heroines be portrayed as they were written. The story line in this movie could never have happened, and if you think so, then please look at the history of the world and reread the books. If you want to forget the books, then you aren't an Anne fan. You are a fan of the K.S. movies, but not of the books as written by Montgomery.

I'm one of those that didn't like it. It made me so depressed that such a film was made with Anne's name tacked on to it :( I can't say I would like it any better if it was based on different characters. I might have. I might not have. But as it is, it's really really... really... depressing. I was 12 when it was aired and just finished reading the series. It reminded me of when Anne's story was published for winning that flour competition (if I remember correctly) but first it was stripped apart and altered -- although I'm sure Diana had better intentions than the makers of the "Continuing Story"

I think it's okay if a movie veers from the books it was based on as long as it doesn't veer from the spirit of the books or the characters. This movie definitely does not have the spirit of the books nor the characters, unfortunately. The characters are not the same Anne, Gil and Diana we all know and love. It's one thing to for them to show how they each had evolved as older people, it's another to have them behave in ways alien to their characters. Avonlea is not the same place we know and love, and the storyline is not Montgomery-like. I think fans would be a little more forgiving of the plot not being right out of the books if it was similar to something Montgomery would have written. Montgomery would certainly not write a war/action/thriller novel. Her stories are filled with romance, growing up, relationships, interactions between people, interesting characters, personal triumphs as well as personal adversities. Veer from the books if you must, but don't ruin the spirit of Anne or Avonlea.

If you really loved Anne then you would not object to people defending her likeness when she is trampled in the mud.

I haven't read the books but I just have to say, stating someone should not be here if they are a fan of the movies is ridiculous. This is a message board for the movie. Fans of the books are perfectly free to disagree. I think we've all seen a movie that butchered how we saw a character. You're entitled to your opinion, but saying they are not an Anne fan and shouldn't be here if they like the movie is ridiculous as this message board is FOR the movie.
