Can someone explain some things please?

During the Kurushetra war, both Drona tells Duryodhan and Karna that a divine weapon is needed to defeat Bhim's son, Gatotkack. Both Drona and Duryodhan look to Karna as if he is the only one with a divine weapon (which Karna uses Indra's weapon for this purpose). But it is later found out (on the very same day) that Drona has a divine weapon, too. So my question is why didn't Drona mention earlier that he had a divine weapon that could stop Gatotkach? Was this a ploy to get Karna to use his weapon so that he couldn't use it against Arjun?

Another thing: When and how did Ashwathama become immortal? After the death of Dushusan, Ashwathama told Duryodhan to consider a truce with the Pandavas, but Duryodhan tell Ashwathama to not be a coward because "Death cannot touch you. You are immortal..." So if this is the case, why would Drona believe the rumor that his son was dead on the previous day?

If I'm not mistaken, divine weapons could not be used for pedestrian warriors. Drona aimed to use his weapon against the Pandava Army, which would have resulted in the destruction of the world. Similarly, certain divine weapons are more potent than others, the use of Drona's weapon may have been too much for Bhim's son, so he refused to use it. Karna's weapon was probably more appropriate. As far as Ashwathama's immortality, the serial is wrong in this respect. Ashwathama's immortality is his curse for using his Brahmasara against Uttara's unborn child. He was cursed by Krishna to be a poor lepper for the rest of eternity because he felt that death would be an appropriate punishment for his crime.

The serial ain't wrong in showing Ashwatthama as an immortal. He owes it to the gem embedded in his forehead. So there was reason for Drona to believe his son could've died by the gem's loss. Further Krishna didNOT curse Ashwatthama; he warned him against keeping the gem for he would have been doomed to roam the earth for eternity otherwise. (as a poor leper)

Dron and Kirp both used divine weapons, given to them by Paraushuram against Arjun. They had hit him with all they had. Krishna was able to stop them. He couldn't however stop Indra's weapon. Neither could Bhima's son.

""""Was this a ploy to get Karna to use his weapon so that he couldn't use it against Arjun? """"

Yes, this was exactly the reason.

Karna also had Bramha's weapon. He tried to call it to kill Arjun. Bramha's weapon, in this version was not good enough to kill him.
