Which series is which?

I saw the Mahabharat or the Mahabharata in about 1990 or maybe as late as 1992 on a PBS station in the New York area. I remember Krishna as the sometimes narrator, and the woman who gave birth to the black ball which then somehow became her multitude of children. Is this enough to tell you whether I saw this version or the one by Peter Blake? I really want to get the one I saw before, but it's been so long I can't remember what I saw v. what I've read since.

Does anyone know if Krishna was narrator in either version? Maybe I'm just remembering that from something I read. I do remember the birth of the black ball that became all the children.

The Peter Brook version was the one shown on PBS. That was done in English. This is the one with the black ball. The Chopra version is over 70 hrs long and shown on Indian TV in Hindi.

Thank you. That helps a great deal. Now I know what to add to my wish list.

Also, Brook's version is partly narrated by Ganesha, who is played by the same actor as Krishna.
