Boy, they sure started this out on the WRONG foot!
From Wiki: In an attempt to contrast this series with the original, the new Mr. Roarke usually wore black. In the first episode, he picked the single black suit out of a closet of white ones and ordered that the rest be burned. Also during the first episode, an assistant came into Mr. Roarke's office, shouting "The planes! The planes!" Mr. Roarke ordered the assistant to never do that again.
I guess they thought this was a "clever" nod to the original series? Nope. Try insult. Something you NEVER want to do when doing a reboot of something is insult the original.
What they SHOULD have done is: have Roarke browse through his closet full of white suits, then he comes across one and says, "I think I will wear...this one." To us, it looks like he's picking one white out of a bunch, when in fact he has produced a black one.
THEN, when his assistant shouts "The planes, the planes!", have Roarke look visibly annoyed and ask him, "MUST you do that EVERY time?!"
That way, these would be nice little nods, not insults.
