Just wondering...

I don't know if anyone noticed this small detail: despite the fact Olof is not able to read he drives a car (a Buick). In my opinion, driving a car requires a driving license even in that paradise corner. So, how did he get the document without knowing some minimal notions about alphabet? Otherwise, is he breaking the law?

Anyway, I think I am a little contentious about that. With or without this, "Under Solen" is just a movie. A good one, after all.

I guess he's driving without any oficial "driving licence". Remember, we're in the 50th, in the countryside of s (sweedish) village. Noody would sue him for this.

English is not my first language. Any corrections are welcome.

Or another detail... What was Erik doing with a brand-new American car? With no visible means of support, other than fleecing Olof and digging graves, how could he afford any new car, especially an imported one? Were our Fords that cheap in Sweden in 1956?

He used to be a sailor and also, he stayed in Memphis for two years. We know very little of his life there, but it's clear that he developed a taste for movie stars and fancy cars. And I assume he did some kind/s of work there as well.
He's also into horse racing and -breeding, so I guess he's a master of making ends meet ;)
