Sgt Troy

Sgt Troy reminded me of Freddie Mercury, with his mustache and big teeth... Anybody?
Wasn't he suppose to be dashing? I don't say he is not good looking, but I couldn't get over his teeth and red hair....

A bit goofy looking to me...

He certainly did not compare with the beauty of Terence Stamp in the 1967 film.

Red hair? Unless you're referring to another adaptation, this Troy (1998) certainly didn't have red hair-- it was brown (sandy brown in the sun): http://www.imdb.com/media/rm253008896/tt0157616?ref_=ttmi_mi_all_prd_9

Personally I found him "dashing" in this role! (Not any less than the latest 2014 Sgt Troy). He's the brother of Colin Firth, whom I also found handsome in "P & P" '95. I've also enjoyed Jonathan in other productions such as Victoria & Albert" (miniseries), etc.

Thank you for replying my old post. I don't remember why I said "red hair", maybe I had an impression of him having a read hair, but I watched the movie again, he was certainly not. I guess my eyes were dazed by his scarlet jacket and bright teeth;)

It's is obvious that he is the brother of Colin Firth by his last name, but being a brother of one of the hottest actors in Britain doesn't mean he is hot. However, I admitted that he was good looking. I didn't like his portrayal of Troy in this movie. He looked too cheesy and shallow. Is it how Troy is supposed to be??? In the book, of course there was no sincerity in this man, but he possessed some good qualities, too. Bathsheba gave herself up to him and continued to love him even after his disappearance, so I suppose there was something about him.

I really liked the new Troy, Tom Sturridge in the latest adaptation. But, his screen time was so limited. Troy and Bathsheba's courtship was rushed, the scene that Troy was messing with Boldwood and the circus scene were omitted, those were the best part! What a shame!
