how can they make such a boring movie with a good scenanario like this????and im wondering, why did they choose beautiful kate and show her as ugly as she can be????i usually do not talk bad about movies but this one was really bad,i feel like ive wasted my time.
they showed Hester Wallace ugly as opposed to the beauty of Claire. if you've read the book, that was the intention of Harris too, that Hester was plain and humble looking and not very young.
as for the film being boring, well, i didn't find it boring at all, but i guess everyone's got their own taste and opinion and there's no point in trying to change that
It kept me on my toes all the time, I love the cast ensemblement too. Although you might just take my assessment with a grain of salt as i usually loathe conventional modern film making and praise films that take their time unfolding, like older movies do so often.
Wrong. On all counts. It was exactly that: One intelligence deducing the intelligence of the enemy. It was not intended to give cheap thrills. The slow, methodical work that went on at Bletchley Park was never destined to satiate the appetite of juvenile minds brought up on a diet of CGI rubbish. The point of the film was the work done at BP to save Europe from a dictator.
If you thik that is *beep* boring, you will have no concept of what you face when the next dictator appears, in whatever guise. (the last ones were cunningly disguised as Bush's)(Oops, sorry, shift key stuck)
"i" What is that? Apart from the ninth letter of the alphabet. Guess you find the shift key boring too. And that is what makes your comment so boring. Input. Lack of it. Look it up.
The film isn't boring - it's a really good film about WWII. Kate plays her role very well. The enitre caste does. This is a really good film about the enigma code and how hard it was to solve.
I really wish (AGED WHATEVER), and their geographical positions would come up alongside posters on the IMDB.
It makes it very difficult to have a mature conversation about the merits of a film when you realize the idiot posting about "how boring" a movie is, is some spotty under 20 year old oik from Boise, Idaho.
I certainly don't find this movie boring, not in the least. I love the storyline, the characters, the soundtrack and the way it feels just like a movie made during the War years. IMHO, an excellent movie and just the opposite of boring; I've watched it many times and will watch it many more, I'm sure.

How anyone could find this movie "boring" is beyond me: The nub of the story was to find a solution to the appalling loss of life & shipping vital to Britain's very survival in the dark years of WWII...... (I guess the original poster was indeed some spotty faced ignorant jerk with no concept of the reality faced by Europe )
It was a difficult task too: Alan M Turing saved Britain & in doing so laid the foundations of the modern concept of computers.....a fact much overlooked.
I guess our original poster was disappointed there wasn't enough CGI to slake his thirst for violence and/or car chases/big explosions or even sex. (Does your mummy know what you get up to?)
The film IS lacking in that it does not give credit to Turing in any form, not even a "nod" in his direction...But as a sort of aside as to what went on at Bletchley Park, it is an entertaining film nonetheless.
BTW... I loved Jeremy Clarksons' remark about one of the out-buildings at B.Park..... "This is Hut #.....the only one that was Air Conditioned.....It was, needless to say...occupied by the Americans...." I bet it was the first "hut" in Britain to have a Coca-Cola machine too! Cheers Jeremy!!!
BTW2....For those of you unaware: Jeremy Clarkson's Father-in-Law won a Victoria Cross in WWII......Look it up, you will be amazed. Real Life. Not Hollywood & certainly not for spotty faced idiots.
Just re-watched it for the umpteenth time. One of the best films made this century. It gets deeper with every viewing. And a terrific John Barry score, too. To the dull-witted, all things are boring.
I may not go as far as to put it amoungst best films of the century (mind you I have to say it's not up against much), but boring it most certainly isn't. Good point dp 131, happy to back you up.
I too think this is one of the best, most absorbing movies I've seen and set in a most interesting time period. I gave it a 10 here, I have it on DVD and re-watch it here and there.
I thought Kate looked fine in this movie, kind of playing Mary Ann to Saffron's Ginger. I'm not sure how anyone could see her as ugly in this movie - and as the Eagles sang, the queen of hearts is always your best bet. I also really admire what Kate W did after "Titanic", she could have cashed in big with blockbusters but didn't, she has done it her way.
I so see how some types could see this as boring, someone who wants lots of action and violence, car crashes, etc. Someone with no patience for brainy fare like this. Mostly men I'm fairly sure.
About the most boring & disjointed movies I've ever tried to watch. I forced myself to sit thru about 40 min. & then just couldn't take anymore. I gave it 3 stars here. I think that's the lowest rating I've ever given any film!
Happy it was a rental, if I'd seen it in a theater when I first came out I would have asked for my money back.
Horrific!
