Based on an old live action tv show?

I can't remember the name of the show, but there used to be this old live action tv show where this kid used to stop time with his watch too. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I remember this one scene where he goes to a grocery store and once he goes to cashier's line, he uses his watch and just walks out the store with everyone frozen. But his watch malfunctions or something once he's out in the parking lot.

I know it's not the one you were thinking of, but nevertheless...

There was a tv show in the 60's called "The Magic Boomerang".
The kids threw the boomerang and while it was in the air, time would stand still for everyone else.

I believe you're thinking of a tv movie called "the girl, the goldwatch and everything" with the guy from Airplane.

Amazing! I came to this thread expressly because I was trying to find that movie.

This is it indeed:

The Girl, the Gold Watch & Everything (1980)

There is an episode of Ducktales with this exact plot.

It was an episode of the Twilight Zone too, and I think that twilight Sone epi was parodied on The Simpsons.

Even earlier. A real live action show from 1952, "Tales of Tomorrow"

The episode was "All the Time in the World", it wasn't a wrist watch, it was a device worn on the wrist that could stop time and it would stop time for anyone within a 5 foot radius. In fact, if while in hypertime you walked closer than 5 feet to someone, they'd suddenly be in hypertime with you.

I have a feeling this frozen time concept probably goes back to a short story from a science fiction magazine.

The New Accelerator by H. G. Wells.

As with pretty much every sci-fi idea, Wells thought of it first.

(BTW, there's a ling to the full text of the short story - read it, it's worth it)

H.G. Wells' short story 'The new accelerator', as v-kyncl already mentioned. In both the Wells short and in 'Clockstoppers' they don't freeze or stop time, but they slow it down - or rather, the speed up their personal time.

H.G. Wells wrote it in 1901 !

This whole movie was if it was actually ripped off from the classic Star Trek episode; 'Wink Of An Eye' dealing with a "hyper-accelerated" physical existence. And with Jonathan Frakes involvement in the film it makes one really wonder where the real inspiration comes from for the real story of this particular movie indeed!
