RIP Bobbi Adler

AKA Debbie Reynolds. You will be sorely missed! :-(

I'm completely devastated. Singin' in the Rain was my favorite movie.
I was hoping Bobbi would make an appearance in the revivals, too :(

reply

Hey lucyhannahblue, I love musicals too, though maybe not as well as you, hence my unfamiliarity with some of them.

But I did get a kick out of learning that the song (the SECOND song) we hear her belting out in her first episode, "Good Morning" was originally sung BY her (in part). I just don't know which musical (sorry).

reply

Yeah, "Good Morning". was featured in Singin' in the Rain. Have you not seen it?

Classic musicals are literally my heart and soul. I loved all the movie musical greats (Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Ginger Rogers, etc) and at the time of her death Debbie was actually the last living person as a poster on my wall. With all these deaths recently it honestly feels like the end of an era, like the classic hollywood era is finally slipping away from us.
It's heartbreaking, in a way.

Agreed - there are not many left. The only "big" names I can think of that are still alive are Kirk Douglas, Olivia de Havilland, and Doris Day. Having the TCM channel is valuable more now than ever!

reply

Sophia Loren and Sidney Poitier are the only ones I can think of to add. I'm a big fan of the three you mentioned - I hope they'll be sticking around for at least a little longer.
The worst part is that none of my friends are ever familiar with their work so I often have to grieve alone when it does happen. i.e me with Mary Tyler Moore right now.

reply

Just heard. It just so sad. Their saying it's the shock of losing her daughter Carrie. Rest in Peace Bobbi Alder.

reply

Rip Bobbie :( my favorite part:

Grace: But that's not fair!
Bobbie: Well so is my cottage cheese ass but-
Grace: Why is that always your answer?! For everything?!

reply

Bobbi marches in singing "76 Trombones". Will congratulates her for her role as Professor Carol Hill in "The Music Person" then mentions her playing Millie Loman in "Death of a Sales Person". Classic stuff. I loved recurring roles by the parents more than the leads, which is why I always checked my TV guide to see if they were on (Debbie/Blythe/Suzanne/Sydney).

"Great theater makes you smile. Outstanding theater may make you weep."

reply

Haha - I love all of Bobbi's moments on the show. Was also hoping to see her for the revival (if it happens), but alas. She was just too good - loved every moment of her character!

"Heloooo, Dear"...Debbie was one of the best parts of the show. Sorely missed.

At least there will be plenty implied.
