Spitfires in France before Dunkirk

Apparently there were four squadrons flying Hurricanes stationed in France and no Spitfire squadrons. In the book Hornet Squadron did fly Hurricanes but for the show it was a lack of airworthy Hurricanes that made the mini-series use Spitfires.

Limited by availability of aircraft the series was also forced to use later models of the Spitfire instead of the Mark 1 or Mark 1A available during 1939-40.

Creative license as there were no flyable Hurricanes available for the series.
