Question about Movie Similar to This

Does anyone know the title of a movie similar in plot to this? It ends with opposing militia chiefs from the Civil War working as businessmen in the 90s. The main character is a young boy from a family which recently moved to Beirut from the south. His father is very bitter. The son gets a job working as a busboy in a Hamra area restaurant owned and attended by intellectuals. My memory of the plot is hazy. Sorry.

Taif Al-Madina... a bit more political than West Beyrouth.

hi, i might be able to help! i think the movie you are talking about is 'in the shadows of the city' here is an excerpt from the internet website

http://www.cafearabica.com/calendar/cities/chicago.html

"Covering some of the same ground as "West Beirut" from a more serious and politically complex perspective, this compelling drama captures the chaos of the Lebanese civil war through the eyes of a young protagonist as he passes from adolescence to adulthood. Twelve-year-old Rami moves from his war-torn village in South Lebanon to the illusory safety of Beirut. There he discovers an enchanted city of adventure, cosmopolitanism, and young love, until the schism of 1975 plunges Beirut into bloody upheaval. Twelve years later, when his father is kidnapped, Rami abandons his neutrality and joins the militia. In the midst of the fighting, he meets Siham, a woman determined to find her missing husband -- one of the thousands of Lebanese who vanished during the war.

Director Jean Chamoun says, "In this film, the memory of the city follows Rami like his shadow. Yet in this shadow are traces of noble dreams and precious memories. This is what gives Rami the strength to resist, to rebuild himself and his country.""

another movie about how politicians and militia leaders (there is no difference) made huge sums of money from the war and their drive for wealth by rebuilding beirut and destroying its old charm. the movie is called "Around the Pink House" good luck!!
