Well, I can't say anything about to Ranyleb if he sees it that way but I felt like I understand the ending just because I've seen the war like Lebaneese.

Well the scene just before the ending we can clearly see the father playing the 'oud' instrument alone, his wife no longer by his side, and the son crying behind a door.
So a safe guess would indeed be that the mother died.

It's symbolism. After his wife was begging to emigrate, and the father rejecting her begs and cries, she eventually dies in the war. That's why Tarek is crying. I also think there is much behind his tears. He realized that war is not fun and that it is not a game. He realized Lebanon would never be the same again.
