Question about the ending

Warning, this contains SPOILERS for those who haven't seen Tokyo Eyes. With that out of the way, I was wondering if anybody could explain to me what happened at the end after K gave the gun to Takeshi Kitano. The gun went off, but did K get shot? When he was with Hinano he was saying something about his side hurting, and the second to last scene shows what looks to be blood on his fingertips. Could someone explain what exactly happened?

reply

I pretty sure he got shot. Though when I was watching it, after the gun goes off, the next scene he is running and jumping out of the apartment. But I think that He was shot.

I think the whole thing was meant to be a metaphor...

The old K, aka "four eyes", was the one who got shot and died.

The new K is the one Hinano sees in the ending.

I thought he got shot and then spent the whole night with her, walking around, until they parted. Then she saw another cute guy and pulled the something is caught in my eye flirt/routine, starting the whole thing over again! But, clearly (?) the ending was intentionally obscure...

i highly doubt that its a new guy in the end. there is about 10 more minutes of footage in the end which was ultimatly condensed to just seeing their eyes. I cant remember if it actually shows his eyes in the end like it does her. so could be possible. Some say he was all of a sudden "healed" in the end but maybe he toughed it out a little more? maybe he stopped by a hospitol while she went to the highest building? what ever happened.. i loved this movie.

My interpretation was that he was injured, but spent one last 'perfect' evening with Hinano before going off to die quietly somewhere. It is obvious that he is in some distress towards the end of their night of walking around the city, but that part where she sees him in the very last scene is a mystery.

Maybe it's just showing that in that particular place, she'll always imagine him standing there?
