Disappointing

So much more could have been done with this film. It's almost frustrating and insulting to be barraged with the mindless sentimental slop that loosely slings the components of this film together. Will Ferrel in a young role in his career yet not before his comedic potential was fully realized in film, still underdeveloped. The rest of the cast was pretty good, including the lead mans' romantic interest who greedily dictated the direction of most of the plot, she's remarkably annoying though well acted.
So much more could have developed in the plot, but the story somehow feels that it was blunted by the generic love story, which is really just another love triangle. Before the bands reunion can even actually initiate with any kind of driving caliber, the main character has made sense of himself, succumbed to his womans' resilient and insidiously structured demands, and the credits are rolling up the screen. Very disappointing.
The screenplay is arguably smart, and the dialogue is sharp. It's the content that's mindless. The jokes themselves aren't really that funny, save the few laugh-out-loud moments that always appear in otherwise dull movies. Most of the jokes made are verbal stints here and there in conversation, some so dull and unoriginal that you'll have to bite your lip.
I didn't hate this movie, I guess I was just really let down because it seemed promising. If you like love movies, this may appeal to your tastes if you're open. However if you want to laugh, this film is not for you.

I agree with you, I couldn't get any farther than halfway thru and then turned the channel. VERY disappointing.
