PRETENTIOUS

Pretentious. Completely. I LOVE Irreversible but this was very disappointing. I didn't necessarily expect shock value.. But I just didn't get anything from this. The narrative lessons seemed pretentious, to carry on too long and lose meaning, and the 'warning... you have 30 seconds to leave this film..' just didn't match up at all. Maybe this shocked an audience of 1998 more.. I don't know. But to me, thi was just mediocre.

I found it to be the least pretentious film I think I have ever seen in my life.
Okay - so the self-styled warning screen toward the end was a little self-indulgent - and perhaps necessary. You could argue that was pretentious. The openning scene perhaps a tiny bit stylized, but I found the film to be very real - even hyper real.

well, the opening sequence was just a summary of events of gaspar noe's short film "carne."

"i stand alone" is a continuation of that story.

the warning screen toward the end, i'm pretty sure, is meant as a joke. there's a lot of not so subtle winks at the audience throughout the film; this film is definately self-aware about its own ironies.

only hipsters say pretentious.

Ironically, you have to be a hipster to make such statements.
