Intriguing but ultimately too artsy.

First, the good:

--Nice imagery, for instance the title montage of pictures
--Good production values
--Some nicely set up scenes, like the first scene with Mellencamp and Terrylene in the church
--Evocative set design

The okay:

-- decent acting, including that of non-actor Mellencamp. It was easy to see that they worked around it, giving him less dialogue and looks like more direction.
-- cinematography

The not-so-hot:

-- Writing. Showing and not telling is all very well but the showing must be comprehensible
-- While I understand the intent was to project a dream-like ambiance to the movie, revealing the interior of the characters, many of the scenes were much too abstract and confusing.

with only minutes to react we've somehow been killed by a stick insect -- Londinieres
