But if you analyze it...
Despite the car scene, the cabin scene, the "sneaking around" scenes, they had nothing in common...no bond...except that their respective spouses were having an affair. For the time being, they could not get past that--Dutch certainly couldn't--so the ending was appropriate.
Despite their being happy to see each other at the airport, neither was willing to commit to the other--Dutch wouldn't (couldn't) leave and Kay wouldn't (couldn't) stay.
The open end essentially says "let's give this some time and SEE if we really should be together...get past WHY we are together."
