The ENding!!!!!SPOILERS

UHHHH....why. why. why. I would have given this film a 7 if they had kissed and gone to have chirstmas togehter like it should be. Intstead we get some cliche's walk away 'open ended' crap. come on. Just let them be happy and in love. I wanted som inspiration.

It's not open-ended. He's going to call her for a date in the future. But right at the end, she has to go home; she has a daughter. And he has a job, at least for the time being.

He was an obsessive idiot throughout the film and learned absolutely nothing by the end of the film.

She did the right thing leaving the jerk.

The ending is realistic yet hopeful. It fits the characters and Sydney's direction is fabulous. Great movie!

But if you analyze it...

Despite the car scene, the cabin scene, the "sneaking around" scenes, they had nothing in common...no bond...except that their respective spouses were having an affair. For the time being, they could not get past that--Dutch certainly couldn't--so the ending was appropriate.

Despite their being happy to see each other at the airport, neither was willing to commit to the other--Dutch wouldn't (couldn't) leave and Kay wouldn't (couldn't) stay.

The open end essentially says "let's give this some time and SEE if we really should be together...get past WHY we are together."
