Fairly lighthearted movie, until the WTF ending!

I wasn't expecting such a dark, abrupt end to this fanciful tale.

Seriously. Probably the most sudden and shocking ending I've seen on a film. It ruined my night!

It's funny, I was just thinking about this movie tonight after reading an article that mentioned Dan Haggerty. I couldn't remember if he was one of the Pink Angels (I don't think he was). I've noticed some of these exploitation movies will have endings like this. I don't know how much of it is a morality tale or if the filmmakers simply didn't know how to end their movies! But I agree, this was quite a downer!

Once I read from a person who knows the producer that the director was insane and didn't film an ending for the movie; furthermore he made it all for a bet, so I can also imagine how poor the budget was.

Maybe that's why it has this sudden and creepy ending. I'm still shocked!

I just watched a screening of it here in Austin and am totally WTFing about the ending, too, which is actually why I logged in here. I know that at the time a lot of movies could have all kinds of outlandish behavior during the film but were required to have a morality ending in order to make showing the "objectionable" content allowable.

By 1971 I don't know if that was a requirement or just an industry standard necessary for release, but either way that ending was super jarring, and frankly didn't fit with anything in there. Even the method of execution was very jarring. It also ended so abruptly- it didn't really feel like it was over.

My initial guess was that the real ending got scrapped and this one was inserted for morality purposes, but I saw the comment that said the director just literally didn't make an ending. Considering it was a decent enough film, I'm kind of surprised if that's the case, but anything is possible.

Anyway, I really dug it up to that point. It had so much potential and they really could have taken that ball and run even further with it that I really hope that someone remakes it and has a blast.

In the User Reviews section for this film if you look at the comments by Gary Radzat he states the director did not film an ending so one had to be improvised quickly so the film could be distributed.
