Horribly Manipulative film...

This movie actually made me angry at how phoney it is. That poor skip, anything terrible that could ever happen to a dog happends to skip in the film. I felt like the director was poking me saying "Cry Here". It didn't feel genuine at all. And enough with the cliches at the Vet where the boy thinks the dog is dead but isn't. We've seen that enough.

I totally agree!

Sure, It's sad but not strong enough to me. I like a strong movie that makes me cry, but this movie goes overboard with being too sentimental (overboard). It was also completely predictable

The movie was actually based on a book of memoirs, and it's based on a true story. I'm not saying that it hasn't been changed at all. I'm just saying that the events that occur in the movie are based on factual events.

It's still seems manipulative. Who knows what was true.

It really seems that way with all movies "based on a true story", though.

Have any of you read the GREAT book? A lot of that stuff you guys are talking about was either not true, or embellished greatly for the "hollywood effect". Willie Morris's dad wasn't nearly as mean as he's portrayed in the film either.

I am glad I could find a thread here that shares my views. I see people praising it and to me it was a horrendously cliched movie. Bad acting, bad screeplay and a very weak plot. Don't know about the book but the movie sucked.

There was nothing in the movie that would mke me cry or feel sad. I felt that it didn't even focus on the dog that much.
