What's with Lori's wardrobe??

I know that this character is supposed to be the "girl next door"/country bumpkin type, but some of the things they had her wearing were just over the top. The typical woman who moved to L.A. from Colorado in 2001 was not wearing tapered, acid-wash jeans and billowy ruffled tops. I know this seems like a minor issue, but I found it really distracting. The costume designer should learn a little something about subtlety.

Other than that, I thought the movie was decent. Good acting, some funny moments, but I wouldn't scour the town looking for a copy of it to rent.

I think that the situation is this. 1) It's an indie film . . . no money for fancy clothing designs, although really, it wouldn't have taken much, and 2)there is the fact that this movie was filmed quite a while ago (6 years or more??) and therefore, styles have changed. That look was really popular in the 80's and early 90's, but that was way before this movie. But otherwise, I agree, the costumes were a little distracting.

beth didn't dress that way when we were around her although it has been a while i think i still remember

As a twentysomething "girl next door"-type from Colorado, I can assure you the costume designers for this film missed the mark. It never occurred to me that Lori's awful wardrobe was chosen on purpose to reflect her character. I figured there was some other explanation. I will say, though, I quite liked the #7 football jersey she wore to bed. Now that's Colorado for you! Long live Elway!

Um hello 2001 was not that long ago. The fashions weren't that bad in 2001. It seems to me they picked horrible clothing and it made Lori look way too frumpy! I still liked the movie.

"I am drunk at Vogue!"

yeah, doesn't seem like the punk beth style!!! but it was like and indepent film remember that!!

they talked about going to thrief stores to get the costumes and stuff.. could be it. i was taken by it too.. the air force shirt, i got.. she just got out.. but some of it was kinda wierd.

reply

She's always wearing that same gray suit to work.

reply

Yes! She did indeed wear the same suit to work everytime. I was waiting for an explanation for that. Forget frumpy, the suit issue was just wierd!

I recorded it on Encore the other night and it said 1999. I thought the jeans she wore to the range were a poor choice, made her look way too hippy.

reply

Uh, yeah! I was shocked to see this movie is from 2001, I thought it was made it the early/ mid nineties by the way people were dressed!

I have no idea why IMDB lists this movie as 2001...it came out originally in '99 so that means it was probably filmed in 97-98 ...which would help explain some of the wardrobe choices a little bit more.
