If this was an event that was in astronomic origin (a white dwarf of a neighboring star, solar flare, etc.) would you assume that they would die along with the Earth? Or would they be stranded in space with no habitable planet to land to. Or maybe the Government/NASA brought them back? What are your thoughts?

Without support to restock supplies they would certainly be doomed. Although whatever it was that wiped out earth most likely would wipe out anything in orbit as well. Their best bet would be to direct the ship away from earth and hope for the best, however that would only be delaying the inevitable.
