regarding the character of Dominic

When watching the show I find myself feeling very fond of and protective over Dominic (i.e. troubled when people are rude or hostile to him). At the same time, I realize it's one thing to observe someone in the third-person and quite another to deal with them directly. So for dedicated fans of the show, I was curious... What do you think about having to interact with Dominic Da Vinci:

A) as a coworker?
B) as a romantic partner?
C) as a family member?
D) as a non-work friend?

I'm curious to hear responses individually for each type, but also which type of relationship would you elect to have with him if you had to choose one ( none-of-the-above is also an acceptable answer, if you find him especially obnoxious).

Dominic is an idealist. He has good intentions and good ideas. He has a good heart although I don't think some of his ideas can come to fruition. He aims high but no one wants to aim as high as him. I love that he has a good heart. He seems fair and would be the type of friend that would really be there for you. I couldn't take him as a romantic partner or as a family member because he would never be home. He is so community oriented that he gives SO much of himself that he never leaves that office. He's in the field ALL the time and ON the job CONSTANTLY. You'd be a widow WHEN HE'D STILL BE ALIVE!! All in all I like Dominic alot....he is a stand up guy...maybe he wears his heart on his sleeve a bit much...maybe a dreamer....and maybe ahead of his time.

I'd have problems with the alcoholism and the cheating, so I wouldn't want to date him, but I think he's a pretty loyal friend and family member. He'd probably make a great dad or brother. Also seemed to be a decent boss.

For all of his abrasiveness, I thought Dom was actually a real charmer. The series (and Campbell) did a good job of making him sympathetic. Some other, similar characters weren't quite so well-done. For example, I wanted to smack Gina Otaviani, sometimes. She was charismatic and charming, too, but her total focus on prisoner rights, with zero sympathy for the victims and their families, undercut the message her character was intended to send.

I also thought Patricia was written as a real killjoy early on. Fortunately, they gave us more of her perspective down the line, even when it didn't make Dom look so good. For example, even though I actively disliked her relationship with Flynn, and agreed with Dom that she did it to some extent out of revenge, I liked it when she called him on complaining about it by saying she remembered every single one of *his* affairs. She had a good point.

Dominic was one of those characters that are great to watch on TV but it real life would just be exhausting to deal with in any capacity. He's just too much of everything.

I agree 100% with voyageur0713
While certainly I gained an affection for Dominic, he would be too much for me in any respect IRL. While he does really care about folks (especially the less fortunate), he is just too hard headed and quick tempered. That coupled with the alcoholism (off and on I guess) - too hot to handle. I'd be out pretty quick.

"I'd have problems with the alcoholism and the cheating …"

What cheating? Did I miss something? Da Vinci had been divorced for a year when the first season begins, so he's a "free agent" and can date or sleep with whomever he wishes.
