Unusual directorial debut for Scott and Larry

It's still hard for me to fathom that the writers of such witty, intelligent films like Ed Wood and People vs. Larry Flynt made their debut with this goofy comedy. Now, I did think that Screwed was funny when I first saw it. But let's face it, the most is just full of cheap, crude humor that doesn't produce as many laughs on repeat viewings. Now, if Scott and Larry directed this movie, but didn't write the script, I would understand. They could've just directed the movie for the money. But they were actually the ones who wrote the script! Now, I'm thinking back to when I heard them speak in the Ed Wood commentary. They said that when they first wrote the script for Problem Child, it was supposed to be a pretty sophisticated adult comedy, but later got transformed into a silly kids' movie. Having heard them say that, I would expect Screwed to be a much more mature comedy.
