'Evil is the other half of a perfect spear.'

Morgana tried to defeat the Djinn by saying, "I wish there was no evil in the world", to which the Djinn responds, "Evil is the other half of a perfect spear. Try again."

English is not my native language, so as far as I know the expression, "a perfect spear" could be a common expression with an obvious meaning that makes his reply crystal clear. I've googled a bit for it, but to no avail, so I came here. Can anyone tell me what the Djinn mean?

My interpretation goes as far as this: "a perfect spear" implies a desired balance, perhaps an unchangeable balance, and the Djinn means that both evil and good must exist, that evil can't be removed because it's needed for this balance.

What did he mean? What do you think?

I think he ment good and evil must be together, you can't have more of good and less evil or no evil it must be equal. The Djinn cannot change that which is linked to the prophecy and he is evil and linked to it. "After all I am the Wishmaster."

RE: DEAD RISING,
You're correct, except that it is spelled "sphere", and either the director, writer, actor or editor goofed. It could also have meant "spear", because a genie would be more familiar with pre-gunpowder weapons than any other, due to his having been locked up for so long. "Spears" and "swords" were judged by their balance, thus making or breaking the reputation of the weaponsmaker - usually a specially trained blacksmith. The most famous are of course Japanese, but perfect balance was essential for any weapon, because it was not the weapon that was good or evil, god or the devil (way back before Christ, Satan did not even exist as a word or a concept, it was "The Adversary"! And so having a "balanced spear" would be correct also. This idea of balance in the series has changed by Wishmaster 3, because the Djinn says that God doesn't care, "The downside to free will", and the ArchAngel Michael says she is the only one who can kill the Djinn, so the whole idea of BALANCE has been lost as a concept, and that is one of the few things that made the first 2 watchable, as opposed to 3 and 4 which have so many plotholes and inconsistencies that they are just embarassing. The young man who plays Greg/Michael in 3 really should have had some other qualification than a manly chest! And again, so much for "balance" between the body and the brain!

Well, I guess there was nothing more to it then. Thanks for the replies.

Although God may not care in the WM series, perhaps there is some other force of good which balances out the Djinn and all other evil. After all, the Djinn race is not Satan, so there mustn't be a God to balance it out. But yeah, this series does have its fair share of inconsistencies.

In the religion of Islam where the Djinn mythology comes from, Lord Satan was a Djinn not a fallen angel as in Christianity. As the Muslims believe angels have no free will. Lord Satan was from race of Djinn known as the Shaitan, He is known as Iblis in the Islamic religion.

Satan is my Lord and Master.
