One of the biggest signatures was the house. why in the world if the tried to match everything up so detailed did they change the house.? Any explanation on that...

It was 38 years since the original and the house and motel had been filmed. Presumably they had to be in good enough repair to be used. Time passes and it makes a difference to buildings and construction. Wood rots, you know.

shareI was a little disappointed when they didn't use the same house, but in the scene with Julianne Moore walking up to the house & seeing it in the daylight, it was a lot creepier than I initially thought, so I'm okay with the change.
