Likeability of the main character

I have to admit that even though Jim Garner was a lawyer who manipulated the legal system, I still preferred his character to the young naive jackass who was having sex with Mary Louise. While he did entrap the district attorney, the district attorney should have known better than to take the bait. He knew it was illegal. If I were a judge, I would have thrown out the case and disbarred the Jim Garner character.
