How come noone realized that it was really Fern

Was everyone just playing along with foxy and courtney but knew that it was really fern or they just really didn't know? Was she that invisible to them? why wouldn't the teachers notice fern's absence and vylette's sudden presence, if that's true that they really didn't know - then wow.. Fern must had really really been hated and ignored.
I hope somebody answer this question

That's bogus as hell, she was literally invisible

reply

I have never had a truly invisible person go to my school but it could happen. So yeah no one even really knew who or what exactly Fern Mayo was so of course they wouldn't realize that Violet was Fern because to them there was no such thing as Fern.

We had someone invisible in my high school. He killed himself & when they made the announcement, my teacher took out a yearbook, looked him up & said "Good lord, I taught him last semester!" ... & she had to look him up. As we all did. Talk about a reminder to get out of your own little space once in a while.

reply

Yeah she was basically invisible, and it had to do with her attitude. When she was Fern she was so shy she disappeared, but when she was Vylette she had a "in-your-face" hotness attitude about her that made it impossible for people to ignore her.

reply

I don't think Fern was invisible persay I mean I think they knew who Fern was because when she is outted you can hear people in the background saying "I knew she looked familiar...etc."
It was just that Vylette's appearance was so opposite of Fern's that they didn't recognize that she was Fern.

reply

It was never "fern" ... She was you that was the point and why you are so confused... wait till you graduate from 8th grade in a couple of years and see how many people remember you.

Just like Courtney was never "courtney" The real Courtney went on to enter politics and later became Secretery of State in the Obammy Administration.

It's one of the themes of the movie. Those who are unpopular are invisible and forgettable. That's why Fern was willing to be transformed; she wouldn't be invisible anymore.

But what happened to Fern/Vylette's high school grade record.. or what would happen when a teacher would call her name to see if she was present. It literally makes no sense; the teachers would of HAD to of known who she was. And there's no way she could pretend to transfer from another high school because she went to Reghan High the whole time and wouldn't be able to prove you she got credits from another high school. Maybe I'm just thinking too into it but it definitely is a flaw.

Yeah I have to call this one a deffinate lie There is no way Fern could become someone New. I mean really I am sure the teachers would realize that she was still fern and During role call ask her why the hell she is going by Violette. Courtney was a good Liar but she couldn't completely erase a persons existence. Clearly this movie wasn't ment to be taken seriously. I mean I'm sorry the most Unnoticed Girl in any high school couldn't suddenly change her appearnce show up to school and have nobody reconize her. she has a Paper trail and I am pretty sure her recoreds are the same.
Jill - You just won't die, will you? Who are you? Michael *beep* Myers? I don't think so.

reply

The principal did say that Fern had been absent for a while.

reply

If Fern was so invisible, why did the WHOLE school go ape *beep* crazy when they realized who she was?

I guess they thought Fern was a loser but paid no attention to her.

What does a bean mean?

reply

You get plenty of people like Fern in real life. People know of them of few actually know them, that's if anyone does. People wouldn't be able to reconize them by name but perhaps by general sight. General being the operative word. Change one of these people's clothes, hair, friends and attitude/confidence and no one would put two and two together.

I was rather young when I first watched Jawbreaker and at the time I wasn't convinced that Fern/Vylette were played by one actress.

But at the end of the day, the one thing to remember is that Jawbreaker is a comedy. A black comedy yes, but a comedy none the less.

There was a girl in high school that asked her teachers to not call her "Dolores" anymore, but "Dee" instead. I remember one teacher's askance face, but he went along with it as did the rest of the teachers.

Insofar as everyone saying that "I thought she looked familiar!" and such once Fern was exposed, you know, youngsters say things like that only to act smart, as if they had guessed right all along, just to impress their mates, or try to do so anyway.

I graduated with 350 kids in my high school; can't say I would know each of their names and recognize them.

It's amazing what a transformation/makeover can do for someone. I totally believe it. I'll never forget when I changed my hair and finally was able to get contacts. People who weren't my friends thought that I was a new student. Some people couldn't believe that it was me. I don't consider myself a Fern since I had friends and everything, but makeovers make a huge difference, especially in Fern's case.

A bit of the old ultraviolence...
