the whole vylett new girl thing makes no sense

1. makeup, new clothes, a hair cut and hair dye wont make you unrecognizable to everyone at school.

2. how did vylette fabricate this exchange student identity?? wouldnt the school need documents or transcripts and wouldnt they do a background check???

reply

Agreed. A person changing their appearance can only do so much. What about the mannerisms and personality of the person? Fern changed her appearance , not how she actually acted etc. Either this is a plot hole with all the transcripts etc, or the writers wants us to suspend our beliefs for a second to believe maybe she was pretty much ignored to the point whereas to some people she didn't exist. Still though I'll go with the plot hole choice.

While I agree that it makes no sense that Vylette is suddenly a whole new person in school; she did change her personality 100%. She was strutting down the hall and acting very confident. I think the point was that Fern was so unnoticed that no one even cared that she was "gone" - it was a pretty silly campy over-the-top movie after all.

Or, maybe Fern told the teachers who she was but only wanted to be called Vylette and because the teachers felt sorry for her they went along with it?? They probably knew who she was ,

reply

I think the whole point was to show how Fern was a nobody in the eyes of the school. No one really cared about her - not even the teachers.

But yes - a gaping plot hole nonetheless. They never really focus on that fact.

YOU MADE ME PLAY SECOND BASE!

It's not a plothole, it's to show how much of a wallflower she was, I've seen things like that happen in real life.

I advise you to not watch any Superman movies.

I don't know, "Vylette" looked VERY different from Fern. I can totally see people being thrown off, especially with Fern only hanging out with McGowan's mean girl clique and not having close interactions with anyone else. Fern was a hermit/loner, so no one paid attention to or cared about her. Not that much of a stretch.

The whole new girl bit was to convey that Fern was a nobody at the school and may have well not have even existed in the eyes of the school. Vy, on the other hand, was the polar opposite, highly visible.

reply

Fern was almost invisible to anyone that's why when she became Vyllete people just agree with the idea of the exchange student...

If you can, I can too...

reply

I agree, that was a ridiculous plot line. Even for a dark comedy.

Most high schools take attendance for one, and CERTAINLY know who belongs in their class.
They'd instantly ask 'Vylette' who the hell she was.
