Hans's secretary

What happened to her at the end of the movie? She looked stoned and was taken away by Hans's men.

reply

I'm not quite sure what happened to her,yet it seems she had a psychotic break of some sort due to the stress of her job and the murdering of the jews.

reply

I imagine Hans got rid of her because she knows too much.

This is my take: she had only one religion. Writing correctly (spelling). And after Hans told her to forget about that, she was free the way she never was before. She cracked, but in a funny way, the way people who are suddnely liberated feel. Sha was happy, confused, and liberated...

That is a really cool interpretation! Gold star. It reminds me of Horst Buchholz's character in "Life Is Beautiful" - a reluctant Nazi doctor forced to participate in the exterminations. Horst became neurotically obsessed with a riddle he couldn't solve (like the secretary's grammar obsession). In both cases it's a coping mechanism to deal with the unspeakable moral conflict they're feeling. Once that obsession is taken away, they crack.
