This is a good, warm drama movie with some great acting performances and good directing.

The acting of Phil and Robert DeNiro was outstanding in this film. There were many other good characters in the movie as well.
I also think the film is underrated.

yeah, I can't believe the critics disliked it so much. Probably because the director has a bad rep for a few duds but he's really good here. teh script is pretty solid too.

I totally agree, this is a movie with a very nice script and sometimes great dialogue. Its gritty and dramatic and definately worth watching for the two main actors' performances (esp. Hoffman's). There are ugly things in this movie--racism, homophobia, prostitution and drug use. The apartement these people live in is dingy and decadent. Yet this movie doesn't condemn any of it--because it's reality blown up on the big screen into drama. The characters can exchange harsh, curse ridden language at each other and still live side by side with humour and irony. I plan to watch it again sometime.
