Jeremy Northam looked like Robert Donat

I didn't think this at first, but later on in the movie, particularly in the final scenes between Catherine and Sir Robert, I was struck by Jeremy Northam's uncanny resemblance to Robert Donat.

(For those who don't know, Donat played Sir Robert in the 1948 film.)

He did very much have the look of Donat.
